| Breaking News | | PCL News: Free Agents File Sunday, November 5th, 1922: Today is the first day of the free agency period.
With the arrival of free agency comes the opportunity for each club across Pacific Coast League to propel themselves into the playoffs simply by making a few shrewd, well-calculated signings. General managers have to choose wisely where to spend their dollars. An expensive signing could be the key to a playoff spot or it could handcuff a franchise for years to come.
This year's key free agents include:
1. Clarance Chatman, 31 year-old first baseman 2. Baby Doll Jacobson, 31 year-old center fielder 3. Willie Hanley, 32 year-old second baseman 4. Erastus Sherry, 30 year-old first baseman 5. Al Scheer, 33 year-old left fielder 6. Tomas Moyer, 29 year-old starting pitcher 7. Nat Edgar, 26 year-old left fielder 8. Braggo Roth, 29 year-old right fielder 9. Lafayette Sawyer, 29 year-old starting pitcher 10. Wesley Hay, 32 year-old left fielder
Each GM has a different approach to free agency. Many fans enjoy this off-season maneuvering just as much as the regular season as they watch to see how the face of their team changes over the next several months. | | Vernon Confident in Esposito Signing as General Manager Thursday, November 2nd, 1922: Even as the media debated the merits of those rumored to be in contention for Vernon's GM post, team officials were furiously wrapping up negotiations with Michael Esposito.
In a mid-afternoon press conference, Esposito was trotted out to answer a flurry of questions from the startled media. Asked if he could handle the job, Esposito responded testily, "That's why they hired me. I know the team has issues, but look around the Pacific Coast League and show me a team that doesn't." | | PCL News: Arbitration Hearings Thursday, November 2nd, 1922: General managers across Pacific Coast League will get a much better idea of the size of their payrolls tomorrow as the league's salary arbitration hearings get under way today. All players who filed for arbitration, but who have yet to sign a new contract, will have their cases ruled upon. The decisions will be announced tomorrow. | | | | |
